Elin Alemdar Founder and Chief Designer

Stylein’s SS17 is inspired by the art and craftsmanship of the Mayans. This season the color scheme carries influences from the nature of the Yucatán peninsula.

Describe your design in three words.
“Feminine, simplistic and timeless.”

What’s your style philosophy?
“Invest in beautiful classic designs that has the perfect fit and never goes out of style and that leaves room for your own personality.”

Is there a symbol that would represent you?
“Oh that’s tricky. Perhaps a symbol that would represent something that has to do with equality. Gender, age, skin colour, sexual preference or background never matters when I see the person who I’m design for.”

Where did the initial concept for your brand come from?
“The concept of Stylein was born when I worked as a stylist and living in New York. I was young, did not see any obstacles what so ever and believed that everything is possible. I simply started to design the pieces I was missing and that couldn’t find on the market.”

What’s your label’s signature pieces?
“The perfect black coat “Bianca” from Stylein Classics that you can wear both for work and as a dress in the evening.”

Tell us about the SS17-collection.
“Stylein’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection is inspired by The Yucatan Mayans. As always the Scandinavian minimalism is constant throughout the collection, this season with vibrant influences from art and craftsmanship of the Mayans as well as the dynamic surroundings of the Yucatán peninsula. I’m intrigued by the beauty and mystery of the Mayans. Their way of working with colours and unique techniques in their craftsmanship has guided me through the process of creating this collection.”

Going forward, what direction will the brand take?
“We believe that we are in a very good position right now to keep doing what we are doing. I have personally grown so much the last years after becoming a mother and I have realized, after 15 years, that Stylein now has it’s own aesthetics and we are so proud over that. I’ve also come to terms with the fact that I don’t need to re-invent myself in each collection, rather believe and be confident in our design integrity and just aim to do keep doing better and more successful collections.”

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?
“Kate Moss. I would probably stare at her and leave the evening with a huge crush.”

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
“No, you’re not allowed to watch the iPad.”

If you could edit your past, what would you change?
“I would have spent even more time with my grandmother and made sure that she met my husband, since she passed away around the same time we met.”

If you could go back in time, where would you go?
“Definitely the 70’s.”
